Three Safe Home Exercise Equipment for Seniors

However, it is even more crucial that the exercise equipment they choose is safe for them to use. For seniors who may not be able to get out much or don't want to head to a gym, home exercise equipment can be extremely beneficial. Let's look at three types of exercise equipment that can be used at home and is safe for seniors.

Recumbent Bike

A recumbent bike is different than the old-fashioned stationary bike. This type of bike has a softer seat that is more like a chair than a hard bike seat. The recumbent bike offers a much more comfortable cushion which allows the user to rest his or her back against it as they peddle. There are usually two sets of hand grips, on the sides and in front, that seniors can grip for added security. Recumbent bikes offer an excellent low impact workout for seniors who wish to work out at home.

Hand Gripper

Many seniors tend to lose their grip in their hands as the years go by. The lower arms and muscles in the hands get weaker, leading to problems when the senior tries to pick something up or hold it. Hand grippers are a safe and easy exercise equipment tool that will allow seniors to strengthen the muscles in their hands and wrists. Some newer models come with different resistance levels that can be increased as the user gets stronger.

Exercise Peddler

An exercise peddler is a great piece of gym equipment that can be used in the home and is perfect for those who cannot move around as much. A peddler simply sits on the floor in front of the user while he or she sits in a chair. As they peddle they will increase their heart rate and blood flow. A peddler will also help increase the mobility in their lower extremities.
